Converge is on the verge of making history with its first-ever PBA semifinal appearance as it faces Rain or Shine in Game 2 of their best-of-three quarterfinal series at Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Friday.
Breaking the Quarterfinal Curse
After six failed attempts to advance past the quarterfinals since acquiring the Alaska Milk franchise, the FiberXers are determined to break through. Holding a 1-0 lead in the series, they look to secure their spot in the Last Four with another strong performance against the Elasto Painters.
Game 1 Recap: Key Moments
In the opening match, Converge leveraged its No. 3 seed status and overpowered Rain or Shine with a 130-118 victory at Smart Araneta Coliseum. The FiberXers capitalized on the early foul trouble of Rain or Shine import Dion Thompson, who was forced out after only 24 minutes of play.
Coach Franco Atienza acknowledged the advantage, stating, “It was a good break for us when Dion left. He’s a big presence inside.”
Big Performances Lead the Way
- Justin Arana stepped up with 22 points and 8 rebounds, dominating inside the paint in his first game back from an ankle injury.
- Cheick Diallo and Justine Baltazar also contributed significantly, helping Converge gain control late in the game.
Eyes on the Semifinals
With momentum on their side, the FiberXers aim to close out the series and secure their first semifinal berth. If successful, they will face the winner of the TNT vs. NorthPort matchup in the next round.
Can Converge finally break the quarterfinal curse? All eyes will be on their crucial Game 2 showdown.
