Watkins' Dominant Performance Propels NLEX to Playoff Berth

Watkins Leads NLEX to Crucial Victory

Mike Watkins delivered a dominant performance with 41 points and 14 rebounds, propelling NLEX to a decisive 94-76 win over Hong Kong Eastern. The victory secured at least a playoff spot for the last PBA Commissioner's Cup quarterfinal berth at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Bolick Overcomes Injury, Coach Uichico Pleased with Second-Half Intensity

Robert Bolick contributed 21 points and eight assists despite sustaining a left ankle injury in the third quarter. He returned in the fourth, sinking a key three-pointer to help extend NLEX’s lead. Coach Jong Uichico expressed satisfaction with his team’s improved energy in the second half after a slow start.

Playoff Implications

NLEX's third straight win brought their record to 6-6, eliminating San Miguel Beer (5-7) from playoff contention for the first time in a decade. Their quarterfinal fate now depends on the results of Magnolia (5-6) and Rain or Shine (6-5) in their final elimination games. A triple tie at 6-6 could favor NLEX in the quotient system, potentially giving them the No. 7 seed.

Eastern’s Struggles and Playoff Risks

Eastern (7-5) suffered its second straight loss, putting them at risk of falling to No. 7 and facing a twice-to-beat disadvantage in the quarterfinals. Despite strong efforts from Chris McLaughlin (18 points, 17 rebounds), Hayden Blankley (14 points), and Glen Yang (12 points), Eastern faltered in the second half as NLEX pulled away.
